Jessie Baylin w/The Watson Twins
The last time local songstress Jessie Baylin played a headlining show in Nashville, it was two years ago and she was releasing her LP Little Spark. As yours truly put it, Spark features “trad-pop vocal melodies and arrangements steeped in subtle, timeless instrumentation” (think Dusty Springfield, Marianne Faithfull, Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra) and owes much of its understated indie-pop charm to arrangements by solo artist, multi-instrumentalist and current Shins member Richard Swift. And people dug it. So what has kept Baylin mostly off the stage for the past two years? Well, for one, she and husband/Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill welcomed their first child — a daughter named Violet — into the world just over a year ago. Tonight, Baylin returns to the spotlight, and she’ll be joined by fellow indie-pop chanteuses The Watson Twins — identical twins Chandra and Leigh Watson, who have provided backing vocals for records by Baylin and Jenny Lewis, and are gifted songwriters in their own right.
